Storm8 World War Game on iPhone & iPod Touch

Introduction

Storm8 World War
Everything Storm8 World War. Tips, advice and much more

Storm8 World War for iPhone/iPod Touch and android phones, is a highly popular multi player online war game. Free to download from the Apple Apps and Android Apps Stores, it can be highly addictive.

To ensure your enjoyment of the game, it's imperative you get the fundamentals of the game right from the very outset. If you don't, you could be liable to farming from stronger players or not have sufficient income to progress successfully. It can be very frustrating after you have progressed for a while to find your efforts have been in vain. Get it right from the beginning and you'll be set for the whole game.

The idea of this blog is to share the basic principles of the game and thereby giving you a bit of a head start, but avoiding giving direct and exact measures to adhere to, which would otherwise take the enjoyment out of the game.

I reset my game when I was at level 110 and I don't profess to be an expert but with the experience I have gained, it is hoped that I can give you a good insight and prevent you making some of the mistakes I made. All comments, advice and feedback are welcome for all to benefit

Storm8 World War Comments PageMissions

Missions are tasks you can do with the use of  predetermined units, energy levels and alliance members. From Missions you earn cash, experience and sometimes loot normal or special units.

Units

These are the military units that help you in defending yourself from or attacking other players. All units are bought with in game money that you earn. Lower level units have no hourly upkeep, however, as you progress, units become more expensive along with their upkeep, with the exception of a few disposable air units.

Battle Screen

On this screen you will find players that are same level and about the same alliance size as yourself. You will only see players flying other country flags (you can't attack players flying the same flag as yourself). You can attack these players if you want. You will also see a Sanction button. Pressing this button will take you to a list of players from all country flags and various levels. You can attack these players and if you kill them, you will gain the sanction reward.

Buildings

There are 3 different types of buildings you can buy, Income, Defense and Energy

Honor Points - Honor Points are points that are awarded by Storm8 for downloading another app or they can be bought for hard cash. They can be exchanged for in game cash, replenishment of energy, health or ammo, change your game name or change your country flag

Health

This is what determines if you can or can't attack. If your health is 27 or above, you can attack other players and they can attack you. 26 and below and you can't attack anyone and no one can attack you unless you are sanctioned. If you are unlucky enough to be sanctioned, your health will dip down to 0 and a death will be registered on your stats. Don't worry, you will automatically be revived to health of 1. You can restore your health if you have money in your vault and you go to the restore screen from the home screen.

Energy

You only need energy to complete Missions and nothing else.

Sanction

Storm8 World War Sanctions ScreenIf someone upsets you or you upset someone, sanctions can be used. If you want to sanction someone, you will need to pay a predetermined minimum amount, depending on your level. 10% of this is used as a 'fee' by storm8, so the person who makes the kill will receive 90% of the amount you put up for the sanction. Don't use sanctions light heartedly. Players will get annoyed if you sanction them for little reason and you could then be subjected to a mass of sanctions from the player you sanctioned and worse still, he could call in his alliance members to attack and sanction you.

Farming

This is a term used when a player continuously attacks another player and 'milks' them of their cash. Hence the name 'farming'. Players who are attacked like this are known as 'cows' by the attacking player. There is no rule of thumb as to how many times you should attack another player without being considered to be farming, but most players accept that more than 3 attacks in a 24 hour period could be classed as 'farming', others will tolerate even more attacks. If you are farmed, under no circumstances should you comment on the farmers comms because then he will have a direct 'hard' link to you that he can come back to whenever he wants.

Camping

Sometimes players want to avoid leveling up so they can improve their income or defense. This is called 'camping'. To camp effectively, you need to stop doing all missions and not attack any other players

Generating income

The first thing you need to do is generate income from income buildings. When you first logged on to the game, you where given cash to start you off. Invest this money into income buildings and then either wait until that building generates enough money to buy more or you can complete some Missions to gain extra cash to invest. However, don't do too many, otherwise you will level up too quickly. Level 5 or 6 would be good places to camp for a while.

As you progress through the levels, you have the option of buying different, more expensive buildings with a higher income, to get the best ROI (return on Investment), it will pay you to invest in a good spreadsheet especially designed for the game. I use JustCalcIt at a cost of $1.19 from the apps store, but there are some good free ones to download from the Storm8 Forum.

Building Your Defense

When you have a reasonable income, you need to start building your defenses with defense buildings. If you invest well in defense at the start and continue invest as you play, it will help you no end throughout the game.

Building Your Alliance

In the early stages of your game, it's imperative you control how many alliance members you accept because with too many it can restrict your income resources and you will be liable to attack from potentially much stronger players.

The first thing is to post your alliance code on YOUR OWN comments wall, then if and when other players read it, they can request an alliance from you. It's also good to post your code in the Storm8 forum under the appropriate thread, to attract more requests. DO NOT POST ON OTHER PLAYERS WALLS AT ALL because this will give other players, especially farmers, permanent links to you.

If you receive requests from other players either on your comments wall or through the alliance request screen, don't reject or delete them. Keep them for the time when you need to build your alliance, later in the game.

I would suggest a maximum of 4 alliance members until you reach approximately level 65, when the alliance brackets start to break.

To Sum Up

Keep a low profile, don't leave comments or respond in any way to attacks or sanctions, keep your alliance to 4 and continually build your income and defense.

Good luck and enjoy your game

Storm8 World War Game Alliance

Storm8 World War Game on iPhone & iPod Touch

Alliance

Building your alliance is an important activity

For each level you can use five of your allies. Every ally you have gives you the ability to use six units in attack or six units in defence. So at level 10, you can only use 50 allies. You might have 100 allies, but the other 50 can't be used until you've reached level 20

The best and easiest place to find allies is on the Battle screen, but here you can only see players who have chosen different country flags to your own. Many people only want allies who fly their own country flag, for whatever reason. Where do you go then? The answer is the Sanctions screen. This has the benefit of putting you in touch with people who are usually very active in the game. This is invaluable because you may need to call on them at a later date

Before you go writing or pasting your code on everyones comments page, look through their comments to see if they have rules about who can or can't join their alliance. Many players post their alliance code on their own comments board and ask other players to add them, often penalizing players who don't read first. Put yourself in their shoes! You are active, in the middle of a conflict that involves you and some of your allies. You are all communicating with each other via each others comments board. Every Tom, Dick and Harry come along and post their codes on the comments board, pushing important messages and links off the page. Wouldn't you be annoyed? I am at level 100+ and if I'm looking for allies, I always look at least 5 pages back on the other players comments board to ensure he hasn't posted his code. If he has, I will use his code on the recruitment page. If he hasn't I will post a simple request with my code, eg, 'can't find your code & can't remember if we're allies. If not, please add me, my code "!*?*!" '

While you're looking through the comments, reading them also gives you an idea of what the player is like. If he gets lots of abuse, it might be better you don't ally with him as you may become a target through his actions

How many members can I have?

Your Alliance size is currently restricted to 2000, HOWEVER when you attack/defend, you will only USE 5 times your current level. Technically, the largest Alliance you'll ever need (until they raise the level cap above 300) is 1500 members.

How many members should I have?

I would advise you to have an Alliance of only 4 (including yourself) at the lower levels, this lowers the amount of units you need to defend yourself (while still keeping you in the top of your Alliance Bracket), which in turn lowers your upkeep

However, once you start getting to the Higher levels, your Alliance Bracket may break, this means you have to quickly gain as many Alliance members as possible, and quickly deploy units for them to use.

Alliance Brackets

Alliance Brackets are groups of enemies with about the same alliance members as each other, this groups equal enemies together, they are generally 4-5 alliance members away from each other, for example: 1-4, 5-9, 10-14 etc.

Alliance Brackets begin to break at the higher levels where there are less members, they break to a point where you can have people with 100 members attacking people with 4 members, it is inadvisable to keep low members when the brackets break

Storm8 World War Game Allies/Units Formula

Storm8 World War Game on iPhone & iPod Touch

Allies/Units Formula

The maximum amount of allies you can use in attack or defence is your current level x 5
Example, if you are level 20, you can use a maximum of 100 allies (level(20) x 5(allies))

The maximum number of units you can use for attack and/or defence is your current level x 5 allies x 6 units
Example, if you are level 20, you can use a maximum of 600 units (level(20) x 5(allies) x 6(units))

If your alliance is lower than the maximum then each ally will utilise a maximum of 6 units each
Example, if you are level 20 and you only have 25 allies you can use a maximum of 150 units (25(allies) x 6(units))

Storm8 World War Game Statistics

Storm8 World War Game on iPhone & iPod Touch

Statistics

Statistics, that's all they are. They hold no real significance to the game other than for your own personal feelings

However, some players view players with a lot of lost fights or a lot of deaths or both, as players who are active and willing to battle and therefore, worth having in their alliance

Bad statistics can also be the first sign of a player with inadequate defence and/or attack capabilities

Storm8 World War Game Leveling

Storm8 World War Game on iPhone & iPod Touch

Leveling

Leveling up through Missions

Each Mission you do provides you a certain amount of experience (exp).

When you gain enough, you level up

Leveling up through attacking

Exactly the same as above, however, every time you attack and win, you gain 2-5 exp, every time you defend and win you gain 1-2, if you don't win, you gain nothing

Storm8 World War Game Camping

Storm8 World War Game on iPhone & iPod Touch

Camping

Many players, mostly those new to Storm8 World War, misinterpret the real meaning of camping. Many think camping is for someone who has no units and/or defense buildings and is trying to improve their build.

What is "camping"? It's a strategy used at various stages throughout the game, staying at certain levels for a period of time to build income and defense. The camping strategy is to prepare your defense and income for later levels of the game so you can sustain growth dependant on your type of game play.

Hard core camping normally means stopping all attacks, Missions and sanction list hunting. Players in camp mode normally check into their accounts to buy income/defense buildings, nothing more.

However there are variations to this.

You can do a variation of hard core camping and do sanction list hunting at the same time. This only works at lower levels (up to about level 20) when the bounties on the sanction list are still significant in relation to your income. You play the sanction list to lose every attack. Your only interest is to get the bounty! If you make the kill, even if you lose the battle, you win the bounty.

Choose your targets carefully when hitting the sanctions list. Higher level targets should be your objective but you need to be aware of players that surf the sanction list for wins. These players often have high health and also replenish their health while on the sanction list. Only attack a sanctioned person once and if you don't get the kill, forget them and target someone else. Don't forget, you're not the only player attacking the sanction list. If a player appears on the sanction list soon after he has been killed, he is an ideal target as his health is only at 1 and will die with one attack.

The benefits to this strategy are;

1. High bounty payouts (in relation to your income) which can be invested into buildings.
2. It keeps you active in the game.
3. You don't earn experience points.

The downside to this strategy, depending on how you look at it, is your win/loss statistics deteriorate, so, if you worry about your game statistics, don't employ this strategy. However, if your statistics don't worry you, the upside is that if you want to level slowly but passively, other players, especially newer players will see your "bad" statistics and thinking you are weak in defenses, attack you, thereby giving you wins.

Another upside to this strategy is that other players who are very active can see your statistics as those of an active player who doesn't mind feeling the heat and recruit you into their alliance

Some players try to delay camping by leveling slowly and some don't even bother camping but without using lots of Honor Points, the need to camp at some stage is inevitable or you will fail miserably in the game.

There are many suggestions for levels to camp at, however, try to choose a level that is slightly higher or lower than the recommended. Why? Because they are normal places to camp, farmers and other players who are active, know this and often look for targets at these common "camping grounds". They also know that it's very unlikely that you will retaliate or "break camp". So, pick a level that is not normal camping ground and stay low.

Storm8 World War Game Strategies

Storm8 World War Game on iPhone & iPod Touch

Strategies

Set yourself a target for each level,

To build income by X amount each lvl before moving on to the next.

The amount of exp points needed to lvl up gets higher on each lvl.

So you spend longer on each lvl as you move on which means you have longer to build income.

I think the whole trick is to go slow build steadily as you go. each lvl build Units, Income and Allies but by a manageable amount

1.) Defensive buildings can go a long way, they also have no upkeep, but they do increase in price by ten percent of original price.

2.) Pick your targets. Instead of going to the "battles" section and randomly tapping on "attack" hoping for a win, do research, if they have tons of defense and you know you can't beat them, don't attack. One of my tactics as I was progressing throught he levels was to go to the attack screen and spend about half an hour checking out the profiles of most of the players you can find. Make a list on paper of those you are certain you can beat in battle. After compiling the list, pressuming your attack and defence are tops, attack each player on your list. When you have attacked one player, put a tick against him on your list. If you attack him again, put another tick. If you manage to attack him a third time, put another tick against his name and leave him alaone for a day or so. Do this with all the players on your list and you will be making $$, gaining experience points and improving your fights win/loose ratio

Also, there is something called "spam attacking". This is where weaker players get angry that you can beat them more than 2 times so they sanction you; not to be confused with farming, which is more of an ongoing thing.

3.) Avoid using the vualt whenever possible, if you have a strong defense, this really isnt a problem (its fine to keep money in there for restoration.)

4.) Use Just Calculate It, it will save you tons of cash for maximum effeciency.

5.) You could join an army or clan. They can really help you and be by your side against other players

Fighting Strategy Tips

These are some general tips based upon personal experience

Alliance Size

There is no advantage at the earlier levels to having a large alliance. The game automatically restricts players with large alliances from attacking players with smaller alliances. Keeping your alliance smaller has the added benefit of limiting your upkeep costs and allowing for a larger income stream.

Experience and money earned from fights remains the same so, as long as your fight list contains players with similar alliance sizes, it is not necessary to increase your alliance size. However, once you hit the higher levels, the game automatically increases the range of opponents that can attack you. When this occurs, you should increase or max out the number of members in your alliance.

I personally like to start with 9 alliance members and only increase the number if absolutely necessary.

Defense Buildings

Defense buildings are an ideal purchase because they have no upkeep costs and are added to your defense score whenever you are attacked. I recommend purchasing as many as you can afford as it will allow you to allocate more of your money toward attack units without having to worry about their defense points

Units Strategy

Unit casualties, upkeep costs, and varying attack and defense points make them one of the most important strategic elements of the game. Deciding what units to buy is an important consideration at every stage of the game.

Casualties

It is important to understand the role of casualties. Whenever your units are utilized in a fight or a mission, there is a random chance that you may lose one or more units. This possibility occurs even if you are just defending against an attacker. All units - including looted units - are subject to this risk.

This means that it may makes sense to purchase extra units in case you are attacked and can not actively replenish units that may be lost in battle.

Upkeep versus Income

The primary purpose of buying income buildings is to create a large money flow that supports the purchase of units. However, most higher level units have an upkeep cost that directly reduces your income stream. This lost income can never be recovered and it occurs every income cycle which means that a total upkeep cost of 20,000 per income cycle would result in losing at least 480,000 per day in lost income. Upkeep costs are commonly calculated as a % of your income stream and must be closely monitored. A high upkeep % too early in the game will significantly impact your future income growth.

Slow Down - Build Income

If you find that upkeep costs are having a significant impact on your income, then it may be time to slow down your character leveling and allow your income to build. This problem will only get worse as you advance in level and the costs grow geometrically (and your opponents are much stronger). This problem is compounded when you realize that each level that your character advances would require you to purchase up to 30 additional units (6 for each additional alliance member) assuming you want to maximize your fighting potential.

Purchase Strategically

When deciding what units to buy, you need to carefully consider the units Upkeep costs, Attack Points and Defense Points. Assuming you can afford to buy the unit, cost should not be a factor in your decision making as it is only a one time expenditure. Keeping in mind the reduction in income from upkeep, it does not always make sense to buy the best available units.

If you are winning most of your fights with your current units, then it may make more strategic sense to not increase your upkeep and allow your income to build at a faster rate.

Maximize Your Fighting Potential

World War allows each alliance member (up to 5 per level) to use 6 units each (regardless of category). You should always make sure that every alliance member has at least 6 units that they can use in a fight.

Attack and Defense

Each unit has an attack and defense score that is used to calculate the results of a fight. Only the attack score is used when you initiate an attack while only the defense score is used when you are attacked. If you are losing fights that you initiate, it may make sense to purchase units that increase your attack score in order to increase your chance of success. Conversely, if you are losing when you get attacked, you may want to increase the defensive point value of your units.

Defense Buildings

Although they are technically buildings, defense buildings are an important consideration when forming a strategy for purchasing units. You can think of them as additional units that provide additional defense points whenever you are attacked. These additional "units" also have the benefit of zero upkeep costs.

Because there are no limits on the number of defense buildings that your base uses, they can become a very significant factor when a large number are acquired. This means that it may not be necessary to purchase as many defense orientated units to protect yourself from attack

Storm8 World War Game Resetting Your Account

Storm8 World War Game on iPhone & iPod Touch

Resetting Your World War Account

If you have decided to reset your Storm8 World War account you should be aware of a few things

If, before you reset, you have a large alliance, you will transfer a lot of them with you to your new account. Recently, someone reset who had originally an alliance of 1700+ and transfered 1400 of his allies to the new, reset account

Sounds good in one respect, but not ideal when you are at a low level. It is recommended to have a small alliance (4 including yourself) when at low levels and trying to build income and defence

You will loose all your Buildings, Units, Money, Skill Points and Honor Points when you reset

Your Alliance code will be different than your original but your Storm8 ID will remain the same

Delete all Storm8 games that you don't play from your itunes account and your device. You should receive an invite with Honor points incentive to download them again in due course

If you didn't delete all the World War Honor Point incentive downloads from your device, click on each one in turn and you will find that some will reload the amount of Honor Points offered, but not all. When I reset, I managed to reclaim over 370 Honor Points
